Will 10-year-old Reymark be finally reunited with his father?

A 10-year-old boy plowing land in Sultan Kudarat only wished for two things: to stop working at a young age and be reunited with his father.

In an episode of “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” last month, Reymark asked the public for help because he had to work in the field at such a young age.

Reymark had to support his family because he hadn't seen his father in over a year. His father was issued a warrant of arrest for illegal possession of firearms.

After the KMJS episode came out and went viral, his plea was heard not only by the internet, but also by his very own father.

Just last Monday, Reymark’s father Rene Boy turned himself in to the authorities.

“Nasaktan talaga ako noong nakita siya na nag-aararo. Ayaw ko man talaga na magka ganyan siya. Napabayaan ko sila. Ilang taon ko siya hindi nakasama. Sana mapatawad niya ako. Kahit na hindi na-viral yung anak ko, hindi ako bumabalik sa mga tulong.”

[It was painful to see him plowing land for a living. I didn’t want that to happen to him. I wasn’t able to take care of my children. I hope he forgives me. I came back for my child, not because of the amount of help he received.]

Rene Boy explained that he left because he thought no help was coming.

According to chief of police Felix Fornan, Rene Boy violated Section 28 of the Republic Act No. 10591, a bailable offense.

Reymark said he last saw his father in March 2020.

He shared that he learned how to plow land from his father.

“Miss na miss na rin po dahil sa ibang bata po, naglalambing po sila ng kanilang tatay po. Ako po ay nanonood na lang po. Parang pini-feel ko na po na parang may nagyayakap po sa akin ang aking tatay” Reymark shared.

[I really miss my father. I see kids who are with their dads, and I could only watch and imagine that my father is also by my side, hugging me.]

Rene Boy said he had many regrets, including using illegal drugs in the past. Despite his flaws, he said, he was thankful that his son never changed the way he looked at him.

To move forward with his case, Rene Boy was brought to the Public Attorney’s Office. After going through the hearing, he filed for bail.

According to Police Major Fornan, “Nag-apply siya ng motion to reduce bail kasi si Rene Boy is one of the indigent citizens. Hindi pa siya tuluyang malaya kasi wala pa siyang order galing sa korte na siya is napawalang-sala. Sa ngayon, temporary liberty lang hanggang sa kung magbibigay ng desisyon ang ating husgado.”

After getting a negative swab test result for COVID-19, Rene Boy finally went home to surprise his children.

Rene Boy thanked everyone who helped his family.

After the happy reunion, the family decided to use the donated groceries to open a small store.

Meanwhile, they are planning to deposit the money Reymark received in a bank as a trust fund that he could withdraw once he is of age.

The social welfare and development office of Bagumbayan also came forward to discuss the custody of Reymark and his two other siblings because Rene Boy and his wife Analyn are separated.

According to DSWD, they will be conducting a Parenting Capability Assessment Report to determine who among the two is capable of taking care of the siblings. – Kaela Malig/RC, GMA News
