Beatrice Gomez shares 'valuable lesson' after family spends Christmas with no water, electricity

Beatrice Gomez revealed that her family celebrated a simple Christmas as their home continued to lack water supply and electricity days after Typhoon Odette hit Cebu.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 titleholder shared a throwback photo of herself with her mom and her sister, saying that she spoke to them over the phone on Christmas Eve.

"Mama and ate shared to me that they chose to settle for a simple meal, having only fast food takeouts for dinner since there’s still no water supply and electricity back home yet," she said.

Despite the adversities they faced, Beatrice said her mom reminded her of a valuable lesson: the importance of being with family.

"....Surviving the typhoon with my sister, our dogs Chabie and Choco, including all her beloved colony of stray cats was reason enough to be grateful," the beauty queen wrote.

"When adversities arise and you lose all the material things you have, being healthy and being with your family is all that truly matters," she added. "The only way to overcome each of life’s challenges is to thank God and to never stop counting your blessings. I owe it to Him to give back all the grace I’ve received this year."

Beatrice also wished everyone a Merry Christmas and thanked those who helped out the victims of the typhoon, and said that she'll be flying to Cebu in a few days.

Last week, southern and central portions of Cebu, such as Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, and Mandaue City were among those placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3.
