'The Grudge' is getting a Netflix series that seeks to unveil a horrifying past

Japanese film franchise "Ju-On," more popularly known in the Philippines as "The Grudge," is getting its very own Netflix series.

Netflix Asia dropped the trailer for "Ju-On: Origins" on Monday, and said it will be streaming starting July 3.

Based on the trailer, it seems that the show investigates what happened in the cursed house, bringing audiences into the past as stars Yoshiyoshi Arakawa and Yuina Kuroshima try to get answers.

According to its Netflix synopsis, "Ju-On" was actually "based on real events that occurred over four decades — and the truth is even more terrifying."

"Ju-On" was a Japanese-American horror franchise created by Takashi Shimizu. Among its popular film releases is the global hit film "The Grudge," and its two sequels.
