Chris Evans is Buzz Lightyear in Pixar's new animated movie

Chris Evans is going to infinity and beyond!

The “Captain America” actor is set to voice Buzz Lightyear in an all-new animated film titled “Lightyear” due to hit theaters in 2022.

Evans shared the news on Twitter, saying the film will not be based on Buzz Lightyear the the toy, but “the human that the toy Buzz Lightyear is based on.”

The actor also shared his excitement on Instagram, sharing a sneak-peek of his animated character with a long, heartfelt caption.

“Working with Pixar is a dream come true,” he said in the caption.

“I’ve been a massive fan of their films since the very beginning. My team could barely contain their excitement when they told me that Pixar had a pitch for me,” he added.

The original Buzz Lightyear toy that appeared in four “Toy Story” films was voiced by Tim Allen.

Evans — who just hung up his superhero shield after playing Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America in Marvel’s ultra-successful “Avengers” franchise — felt grateful and excited to take on the iconic role.

“All they said was ‘Buzz Lightyear.’ I didn’t know what that meant, since Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear, and no one could ever touch his performance. I needed to know how this character was different and why this story was worth telling,” the actor said.

“I can say 2 things with absolute confidence: 1. I didn’t stop smiling through the ENTIRE pitch. Ear to ear. 2. Everyone can rest easy. And get very excited,” he added. —Margaret Claire Layug/JCB, GMA News
