Rabiya Mateo on Miss Universe: ‘That night wasn’t for me’

Rabiya Mateo took to Instagram to share her sentiments a week after the Miss Universe 2020 pageant.

Sharing photos of her wearing the orange Sarimanok-inspired gown she should’ve worn for her finals evening gown, the Ilongga beauty queen said she’s doing okay.

“I can’t believe it’s been one week already. For those who were asking how am I, you have nothing to worry,” she wrote in the caption.

“I’m enjoying my mini vacay here in the US. Just few more days and I’ll be working again.”

According to her, the gown was her gift to Iloilo City because its details are connected to the Dinagyang Festival which they celebrate every January.

“I was waiting for that moment, I’ve been trying to imagine myself walk in this gown if ever I enter the top 10. It didn’t happen but I am still blessed,” she wrote.

“It was heartbreaking at first but I realize every girl in the competition also made sacrifices and it’s all about destiny. That night wasn’t meant for me,” she continued.

Towards the end, she said that she may have failed to bring the country’s fifth crown home but she “gained the hearts of millions of Filipinos.”

“That makes me a winner. Salamat, Pilipinas! Lalaban pa rin tayo sa buhay!”

Rabiya also gave a special mention to Dubai-based Filipino fashion designer Furne One Amato who made her the gown and her stylists.

After the Miss Universe 2020 coronation night, Rabiya said that she will fly to Los Angeles to “travel alone and explore.”

The pageant was held in Florida last May 17 in which Mexico’s Andrea Meza was crowned. -- BAP, GMA News
