Maynilad: Continued turbid water inflow prolonging interruptions in high-lying areas

By JON VIKTOR D. CABUENAS, GMA News

Customers of Maynilad Water Services Inc. in high-lying areas can expect longer service interruptions than earlier scheduled, as the concessionaire said the sustained inflow of turbid water from the Ipo Dam prevents it from reaching target levels.

As of 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 19, Maynilad said turbid water continues to flow from Ipo Dam following Typhoon Ulysses (international name: Vamco) that hit the country last week, prompting several service interruptions.

"This affected network pressure, and the impact was immediately felt in elevated portions of our concession area. Hence, some of our customers in high-lying areas are currently experiencing a longer service interruption than scheduled," it said.

Service interruptions due to the turbidity were reported last Thursday, November 12, and could last until next Tuesday, November 24

Maynilad said its technical team is already implementing system adjustments at the plant to address the concern, and it has increased its mobile water tanker complement. It has also appealed for assistance from the local government unit and the local fire bureau to add to its fleet of water tanker deliveries.

"We apologize for the inconvenience, and continue to ask for our customers' patience as we facilitate the clearing operations at our treatment facilities that were affected by Typhoon Ulysses," it said.

Earlier this month, Maynilad said it will defer rate hikes in 2021, given the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maynilad currently serves customers in the cities of Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon Manila, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Quezon, Valenzuela. It also services certain areas in Cavite such as the cities of Bacoor, Cavite, and Imus; and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario.—AOL, GMA News
