Eastern Visayas reports P6-M in agriculture damage from Ambo

The Eastern Visayas reported that Typhoon Ambo caused P6 million worth of agricultural damage across the region, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said on Saturday.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, Agriculture Secretary William Dar said that the Eastern Visayas (Region VIII) was the first to report on the damage they suffered, which included commodities like root crops, cassava, bananas, assorted vegetables, rice, and corn.

Dar said that some 176,000 hectares of rice and 90,000 hectares of corn were in Ambo's path, and farmers were advised to harvest their mature crops before the tropical cyclone struck.

The Agriculture Secretary expected other regions to report their damage this Saturday. — DVM, GMA News
