Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano on Friday said he is expecting that more COVID-19 recoveries in the city would be disclosed by next week.

At a Laging Handa press briefing, Cayetano said the city has 1,663 confirmed cases since March. He noted that a total of 1,030 are active cases while the number of recoveries is at 610.

He said recoveries could increase as they will already finish their 14-day quarantine period.

"We expect on Monday that we will have a surge of recoveries dahil after 14 days ho, automatic 'pag hindi naospital o nagkasakit ang ating mga mino-monitor, they are considered recovered..." Cayetano said.

In a separate press release, Cayetano said 90% of the active cases in the city are asymptomatic. This prompted the local authorities to have more isolation facilities to curb the spread of the virus in communities.

He said a mega quarantine facility would be built that can accommodate at least 500 patients.

Meanwhile, Cayetano said the local government is now focused on placing specific places under lockdown if ever COVID-19 cases in those areas will continue to spike.

"Kung isasara ho natin ang isang barangay, isang siyudad, mas malaki ho ang epekto. Dito sa NCR, nagkasundo kaming mga mayor, as much as possible, we will focus on localized lockdowns if necessary," Cayetano said.

Taguig City has been lauded by government officials because of its targeted response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Nakita po natin, ang gaganda ng ginagawa ng Taguig City patungkol sa kanilang aggressive tracing, testing and treatment and partnership. This is really a role model," Health Secretary Francisco Duque had said.

Testing czar Secretary Vince Dizon also praised the city for its plan to add more quarantine facilities for patients in the city. —LBG/KBK, GMA News
