Parts of Tumana in Marikina still impassable after Ulysses’ onslaught —Robredo

Several parts of Barangay Tumana in Marikina City, one of the areas hardest hit by Typhoon Ulysses, remain impassable after heavy downpour and strong winds ravaged the area, Vice President Leni Robredo said late Thursday night.

In a Facebook live past 10 p.m., Robredo said the thick mud left by the floods have rendered some roads in Tumana impassable.

“Kanina pagpunta namin sa Barangay Tumana, maraming mga lugar na hindi pa passable kasi makapal na makapal pa ‘yung mud kasi parang nawawala pa lang ‘yung tubig,” she said.

“Marami pang problema kasi hindi pa sila nakakapaglinis Nakakabalik pa lang sila sa mga bahay,” she added.

Meanwhile, Robredo said residents of Rodriguez, Rizal urgently need basic items.

“No’ng tinanong ko po do’n ano ang kailangan ngayon, do’n po sa Rodriguez, naubos talaga ‘yung gamit nila so kailangan nila ng damit, tsinelas, pagkain,” she said.

The Office of the Vice President gave blankets, diapers, and hot meals to Rodriguez and Marikina residents.

“Sa Marikina po… Ang laking tulong po ‘yung hot meals kasi lalo na yung mga nasa evacuation center wala naman silang means para magluto pa,” she said.

Ulysses left a trail of devastation and trauma in its wake on Thursday.
