Motorists complain after 2 more U-turn slots on EDSA were closed

Some motorists complained after the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) closed two more U-turn slots on EDSA before dawn on Monday.

One was near Oliveros Drive, while the other one was near Balintawak Market, both in Quezon City, according to a report by James Agustin on GMA News' Unang Balita.

With the closure of the U-turn slots, motorists may either use the EDSA U-turn slot in Bagong Barrio or near Gen. Malvar Street, both in Caloocan City, on the northbound lane, or go under the EDSA-Quezon Avenue flyover on the southbound lane.

However these won't be for long since the MMDA earlier said it will close all 13 U-turn slots on EDSA by December.

Taxi driver Jonathan Lopido said the closure of the two U-turn slots on Monday will entail longer trips and more gasoline.

Motorcycle riders also complained, saying their travel will be longer and traffic will be heavier.

One rider said he will try to use the inner roads to avoid going a long way on EDSA just to make a U-turn.

The MMDA earlier closed the U-turn slots near Dario Bridge and North Avenue

PUJ drivers also complained before, saying the U-turn slots closures have entailed additional cost for gasoline and more travel time.

The MMDA has said it does not expect the usual heavy traffic on EDSA to return to its pre-pandemic levels once all the U-turn slots are closed. —KG, GMA News
