By ANNA FELICIA BAJO,GMA News

The local government of Quezon City is in the process of renovating vaccination centers as part of its inoculation program for COVID-19, Mayor Joy Belmonte said Tuesday.

"We have already identified 24 here in Quezon City with the help of the third party. We are now in the process of renovating these centers and we have also identified a cold storage facility for the vaccinations," Belmonte said in an ANC interview Tuesday.

A total of 1.1 million AstraZeneca vaccines have been secured by the city government for its residents. According to Belmonte, this is expected to benefit around 550,000 residents.

Belmonte admitted that there has been fear and concern among city residents about the COVID-19 vaccines. She said they need to be reassured on the effectiveness of vaccines against the disease.

"They're undecided based on fear. If you can just reassure them on the safety and efficacy of the vaccines, I think it will change their minds," she said.

Quezon City is just among the localities in Metro Manila that inked a tripartite agreement with the national government and AstraZeneca to acquire vaccines for their constituents. —KBK, GMA News
