By JOVILAND RITA,GMA News

More quarantine facilities have been opened in Quezon City after some hospitals reported near full occupancy for COVID-19 cases, the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CESU) said Tuesday.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, CESU head  Dr. Rolando Cruz said mild cases and asymptomatic patients will be admitted at the quarantine facilities to ease the overwhelmed hospitals.

“Karamihan sa mga mild na kaso lang hindi na po natin pinapadala sa mga ospital natin. So lahat po ‘yan ay nandoon sa HOPE facilities,” he said.

(We no longer bring mild cases to hospitals. All of them are being admitted to HOPE facilities.)

“Nag-open na po kami ng bagong quarantine facilities para ma-accommodate ‘yung mga mild cases at saka yung mga asymptomatic,” he added.

(We have already opened new quarantine facilities to accommodate mild cases and asymptomatic patients.)

According to Cruz, the capacity of hospitals for COVID-19 cases is already full because many infected patients from other cities are also being admitted in the health facilities of Quezon City.

Earlier, Health Undersecretary Leopoldo Vega said the capacity of some hospitals in Quezon City, Makati City , and Taguig Cityare under “high risk” category, which means the occupancy of their COVID-19 bed capacity has reached 80 to 85%.
