By JOVILAND RITA,GMA News

The San Juan City government announced Wednesday the start the vaccination rollout using the one-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said the local government initially received 2,800 doses of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

“Ngayong araw ang unang pagkakataon na dito po sa San Juan nagbakuna kami ng Johnson & Johnson (Today will be the first time San Juan will conduct vaccination using Johnson & Johnson),” he said.

Since recipients would only need one shot of Johnson & Johnson vaccine to be considered as fully vaccinated, Zamora said the use of this vaccine brand will speed up their vaccination rollout.

Zamora said the city’s initial government supply of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine will be administered to senior citizens and people with co-morbidity.

At least 600 people are set to receive the dose on Wednesday.

Zamora said at least 109,066 residents already got their first COVID-19 vaccine jab, while 43,703 are already fully vaccinated, which is 47% of the target to reach herd immunity in the city.

San Juan City still has 88 active COVID-19 cases, according to Zamora. —LBG, GMA News
