The Caloocan City government on Wednesday began administering the one-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine on senior citizens, one of the most vulnerable groups for the respiratory illness.

Based on GMA News reporter Ian Cruz's tweet, city health workers gave the shot, manufactured by J&J subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals, to seniors including Lilia Camba, Lolito Bunayog and Jesse Barrett.

On Facebook, Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan said the locality gained 10,300 J&J doses from the national government.

The San Juan government also earlier administered J&J doses to senior citizens and people with comorbidities. The city government received a total of 2,800 doses of the American-made vaccine.

The Navotas government also previously announced that it received its share of 1,600 J&J shots from the national government.

Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco said that these will be used for senior citizens, who will be inoculated in the city's vaccination bus.

Unlike other brands, the Janssen vaccine is single-dose. This means a person is already fully vaccinated two weeks after getting the jab.

The Philippines last week received 3.2 million Janssen doses, donated by the US government through the COVAX facility.

Pollster Pulse Asia said in its latest survey that 43% Filipino adults said they are willing to get vaccinated against COVID-19. — BM, GMA News
