Cops strictly implement health protocols at checkpoints, order non-APOR to turn back

Members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) strictly implemented health and safety protocols at border control points in Metro Manila on Saturday amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), ordering those who are not authorized persons outside residence (APOR) to turn back.

At the Batasan-San Mateo Road at the boundary of Quezon City and Rizal province, some motorists found to be non-APOR were directed to make a U-turn to go back to their point of origin, according to a report by Allan Gatus on Dobol B TV.

There were some who also came from San Mateo, Rizal who tried to go through the said checkpoint to buy at a fast-food outlet in Quezon City. They too were ordered to turn back.

PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Wednesday said consumers buying essential goods will be prohibited from crossing town or city borders during the ECQ in Metro Manila from August 6 to 20.

Meanwhile, at the boundary of Tunasan, Muntinlupa City and San Pedro, Laguna, police made thorough inspections of vehicles, according to a report by Mao dela Cruz on Dobol B TV.

Two passengers of a jeepney were ordered to get down from the vehicle after they were caught not wearing face shields. The Department of Transportation mandated the use of face shields, aside from wearing face masks, for all passengers in any mode of public transportation effective August 15, 2020.

Those who did not bring valid IDs to prove they were APOR were also ordered to turn back.

The strict ECQ was implemented in Metro Manila in light of the threat posed by the Delta coronavirus variant, Malacañang previously said.

The highly contagious Delta variant of coronavirus has been detected in all Metro Manila areas, the Department of Health (DOH) said Friday.

“All National Capital Region areas now have a local Delta case,” DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a briefing.

The DOH on Friday reported 119 new cases of the highly contagious Delta coronavirus variant, pushing the country’s tally to 450. —KG, GMA News
