The National Capital Region has already fully vaccinated 4,262,546 residents as of Sunday, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairperson Benhur Abalos said on Monday.

At the Go Negosyo forum, Abalos said that the total so far is 43.5 percent of the eligible vaccine recipients in the region.

“Those who got the first dose is about 75 percent of the whole eligible population of the NCR and those who have  completed two doses as of now, as August 22, is 43.5 percent,” he said.

Abalos said that the NCR can achieve the full vaccination of 50 percent of the eligible population by the end of August.

The government is eyeing to vaccinate 58 million people in highly urbanized areas by the end of the year to achieve herd immunity amid limited COVID-19 vaccine supply.

To reach herd immunity, the country has to inoculate 70% to 80% of its 109 million population. — BM, GMA News
