16-year-old flings friend to safety before getting swept away by creek

Authorities are still looking for 16-year-old boy who has been missing for four days after getting swept in a flooded creek in Caloocan City.

According to Jun Veneracion’s “24 Oras” report on Wednesday, the boy went swimming with his friends on Saturday at the creek in Barangay 170, Caloocan City amid heavy rain brought by Tropical Depression Lannie.

The authorities identified the victim as Kristan Bautista.

JC Bautista, one of the witnesses, said a younger boy tried to rescue Kristan but they were both swept away and were about go under.

The witness said Kristan sacrificed himself by grabbing the younger boy’s knee and pushing him towards a shallow part of the creek.

Meanwhile, Feliza Bautista, mother of the Kristan, appealed for help to search for the missing boy.

“Sana makita na po, sana po may maawang tumulong po sa amin. Makita lang po ng personal yung bata kahit ano pong mangyari,” the mother said.

(I appeal for help to locate Kristian. Please someone will help us. Just to see the child in person no matter what happens.)

The barangay officials said they would implement stricter measures to prevent drowning incident in the flooded creek.
