NCR areas under granular lockdown rise from 120 to 131 —PNP

The number of areas in the National Capital Region under granular lockdown increased from 120 to 131 as of Monday, based on the data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) released on Tuesday.

In an update, the areas under granular lockdown were reported in 88 barangays in Metro Manila.

According to the PNP, these areas included 80 houses, 16 residential building floors, 14 residential buildings, 14 subdivisions or villages, and seven streets.

The local government units (LGUs) decide on imposing and lifting granular lockdowns, the PNP Public Information Office said.

To ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards, the PNP has deployed 420 personnel and 485 force multipliers in the concerned areas.

Metro Manila Council (MMC) head and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez earlier said the presence of one COVID-19 case is enough to impose a lockdown on a house or a condominium floor.

To impose a lockdown on an entire street, he said there should be at least two COVID-19 cases.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level quarantine for areas classified as "critical zones" by the local government unit (LGU).

According to officials, granular lockdowns could be implemented on a house, compound, street or building with high cases of infections. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
