2 Nigerians nabbed in online 'love scam' by anti-cybercrime unit

Two Nigerians were arrested after they allegedly masterminded a scam to extort thousands of dollars from a businesswoman in what police called a form of "love scam".

According to Ian Cruz's report on "24 Oras", the suspects were identified as Felix Aondowase and Emmanuel Abia.

The victim said she met a man who introduced himself as an Australian via a dating app.

The two became close and reached the point they were showing each other sensitive parts of their bodies.

The victim didn't know that the suspects were allegedly recording the images which were used to extort money from her.

The authorities said the suspects used pictures of handsome men to make unsuspecting women to fall for the scam online.

“Kinacategorize kasi natin ito as love scam kasi they make their victims na magfall in love sa kanila,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Irene Cena, chief  of Women and Children Cybercrime Prevention Unit.

The businesswoman sought the help of the police when the extortion happened.

A Filipino couple was arrested after they received the initial P20,000 in an entrapment operation.

They turned into witnesses and pointed to the Nigerians, who denied that they were behind the scam. -NB, GMA News
