OCTA supports dropping face shield requirement for NCR moviegoers

Independent research group OCTA on Thursday expressed support for the recommendation to drop the face shield requirement for cinemas in Metro Manila.

“Right now because cases are low and going down. We have at least 80% of adults in NCR are fully vaccinated. I think we can go away on our face shields,” Dr. Guido David, OCTA Research fellow, said in Ivan Mayrina’s “24 Oras” report on Thursday.

with the downgrading of the NCR alert level to Level 2 on Thursday.

However, moviegoers must still sit at least one seat away from each other, while face masks will also be required to be worn all throughout the movie. Eating is still not allowed inside the theaters.

Meanwhile, DILG Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said on Thursday the department will propose the abolition of the policy on the use of face shields to the IATF.

“We support na paluwagin na ang polisiya sa paggamit ng face shield. We recommend to the IATF na dahan-dahan nating tanggalin ‘yung face shield, except of course in hospital setting,” Malaya said.

Malaya, however, noted that the final decision will still be in IATF's hands, adding that the next meeting will be held on Sunday. — Richa Noriega/BM, GMA News
