Protect children vs. cyberbullying, pornography as students go online, DepEd asks parents, guardians

By JAMIL SANTOS, GMA News

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday asked parents and guardians to guide their children against cyberbullying and pornography with most classes going online.

"'Yung pagpunta sa ibang sites ay kailangan namin ng tulong ng mga magulang at kasama sa bahay ng mga bata," DepEd chief of staff and Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan said at the Laging Handa press briefing.

"At the end of the day, importante 'yung kaalaman mismo ng mga mag-aaral natin to be very discerning in looking for digital content and online content," he added.

The department, on its part, said it will be delivering "quality-assured" content as Education Secretary Leonor Briones announced the opening of school year 2020-2021 on August 24.

"We will ensure that all the content coming from the Department of Education are consistent with our curriculum and standards," Malaluan said.

Students will either go to class physically or via online due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and general community quarantine (GCQ) implemented in different parts of the country.

The school year will end on April 30, 2021, Briones said.—AOL, GMA News
