Gamboa urges victims to come out, file raps vs. erring police frontliners

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa on Friday urged women, who have supposedly been sexually abused by police frontliners, to file a case against the erring cops.

Gamboa said the PNP is taking the allegations of physical and sexual abuses seriously.

"We will never tolerate any form of physical or sexual abuse against women. I strongly urge those unnamed sources to immediately report to the PNP and to file charges against suspected wrongdoers," Gamboa said in a statement.

Gamboa's call came following a report stating that some cops deployed in control points are supposedly trading sex for a quarantine pass in this time of lockdown.

The report also alleged that some police officers were offering transportation for some women in exchange of sex.

Gamboa called on victims or those who have information about the matter to come out so that the allegations will be investigated and appropriate actions will be taken against erring policemen.

"The moment a police officer commits a crime, he stops being an officer of the law and becomes a criminal, a sexual predator," he said.

The PNP chief also noted that majority of policemen are true to their service especially in this time of health crisis.

“In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have police frontliners who risk their lives on a daily basis. It is unfair that they become part of an unfounded generalization simply because of the criminal actions of a few," he said. —AOL, GMA News
