LP seeks justice for 2 kids killed by mortar shelling in Maguindanao

The Liberal Party (LP) on Monday condemned the death of two children in Maguindanao after a mortar shell exploded in their house.

“Binigo natin si Aslamiya, 10 years old, at Asnaida Tambak, 7 years old. They were killed in the senseless mortal shelling attack yesterday, May 24, on Eid’l Fitr, in Maguindanao," LP president and Senator Francis Pangilinan said in a statement.

"In the feast of Eid’l Fitr when we should have been joining our Muslim brothers and sisters in peace, there is violence once again," he added.

Pangilinan said the LP joins the call for the Bangsamoro Human Rights Commission to conduct an open probe into the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

"Our office is willing to extend any assistance needed for the investigation," he added.

On Sunday, two children were killed after a mortar believed to be an 81-mm bomb hit their house in Datu Saudi Ampatuan, Maguindanao. Nine others, including their mother, were injured.

The military has denied that it had been operating in the area when the incident occurred. — BM, GMA News
