Philippines' COVID-19 cases exceed 25,000 with 607 new infections

The Philippines on Saturday reported 607 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, of which 504 are "fresh" or newly validated and 103 are late cases, bringing the total tally to 25,392

According to the Department of Health, total recoveries also rose to 5,706 with 252 new cases, while 22 more fatalities brought the death toll in the country to 1,074.

Among the fresh cases, 246 are from the National Capital Region, 85 are from Region VII, and 173 are from other areas.

Among the late cases, 42 are from the National Capital Region and 61 are from other areas.

The DOH said that two duplicate cases were removed from Friday's total confirmed cases. It reiterated that total cases reported may be subject to change as the numbers undergo constant cleaning and validation.

Meanwhile, at present, the Philippines has 43 certified polymerase chain reaction facilities and 15 GeneXpert laboratories. -MDM, GMA News
