The Philippine Coast Guard is set to open its own quarantine facility for its personnel amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PCG is targeting to open the facility, which can accommodate more than 200 personnel, by September.

"Actually, the capacity is 250 people, but some of the accommodation will be for our medical staff. Through God’s intervention and blessing, finally, we pursue this project. In 30 days, it will be realized, once and for all,” PCG commandant Admiral George Ursabia said in a press release.

Ursabia said good quality container vans would be used in the construction of the quarantine facility for the isolation of its frontline personnel who are positive for COVID-19.

He added the facility would be equipped with a sewerage system, electrical system, and air conditioning system, as well as an entertainment facility that could ease the boredom of frontline personnel during their isolation period.

The P35 million budget for the quarantine facility is acquired from the 2019 capital outlay and the 2020 Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses budget of the PCG as well as from the financial aid of the Department of Budget and Management.

So far, the PCG has a total of 676 confirmed cases, with 530 recoveries. The remaining cases are asymptomatic, the PCG said.—AOL, GMA News
