The 236 cadets and 13 personnel in Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) who tested positive for COVID-19 already recovered, according to its director Police Major General Gilbert Cruz.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday, Cruz said they are currently just isolating the close contacts of the previously infected persons. He noted that these close contacts already tested negative.

“Opo. Tama po ‘yun,” Cruz said when asked if there are no more positive cases in the academy.

“’Yung mga nauna pong nag-positive ‘yung ginawa po natin noong September 8 na RT-PCR tests, nag-galingan na po sila,” he added.

Cruz said that the recovered patients were already released from isolation facilities.

On September 20, Cruz reported that 232 cadets, five officers, two non-officers, and four maintenance personnel tested positive for COVID-19

He said that they were transferred to isolation facilities in campus, where they still observed health protocols and healthy diet to recover from the disease.

According to Cruz, the academy's classes still continue online. To avoid the transmission of the coronavirus, he said, their facilities regularly undergo disinfection.

The PNPA has 1,098 cadets and 361 personnel, he said.

Earlier, the PNPA was placed under lockdown due to the cases of COVID-19. Cruz said that 11,000 face masks and 27,000 face shields were distributed to cadets and personnel for their protection. —LBG, GMA News
