All units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) were placed on red alert on Saturday to maximize the availability of personnel in preparation for the onslaught of Typhoon Rolly.

“This is a pre-emptive measure to ensure that the AFP is at its maximum capacity to deploy personnel and equipment in the conduct of humanitarian and disaster response operations,” the AFP said in a statement.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal 3 was raised in several areas

on Saturday afternoon due to Rolly as the typhoon maintained its strength while moving towards the Bicol Region.

The AFP chief, Lieutenant General Gilbert Gapay, also reiterated his directive to ensure the safety of military personnel and assets.

He also ordered frontline units in less affected areas to be prepared to mobilize as a backup to those located in directly affected areas.

The Philippine military was meanwhile coordinating with other government agencies in monitoring Rolly.

“We urge the public to take all necessary precautions to stay safe and heed government calls for preemptive evacuation,” said the AFP.

“Ang pakikiisa at maagang paghahanda ng bawat mamamayan ang pinakamabisang panglaban sa ganitong sakuna. Sama sama tayong magbantay upang mabawasan ang pinsalang dala ng bagyong ito,” it added.
