Malacañang on Thursday called on Filipinos to unite and be thankful for the "silver linings" that emerged from this year's challenges .

In a statement, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said he hopes that this year's Christmas will be filled with hope, peace, and joy.

"The pandemic and the natural disasters brought fear and sadness but during these difficult times, we heal and recover as one. Amid these challenges, there are silver linings that we can be thankful for," he said.

Roque also urged Filipinos to share their blessings to those who have been badly affected by natural or personal tragedies.

"I hope that we give more compassion, understanding and patience to our fellowmen," he said, adding, "It is high time that we collectively unite as one nation and one people for a better Philippines."

On the other hand, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar asked the public to reflect and ponder over the lessons from the Bible about Christ’s birth, "and practice the humility, compassion, and kindness Christ has displayed."

He then urged everyone to observe the necessary health protocols and minimum health standards during the Yuletide season to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

The Department of Health earlier advised the public to hold Christmas parties only among members of the same household. —LBG, GMA News
