Fortun on medico-legal report: Did Dacera really have aneurysm and was something injected into her?

A forensic pathologist on Thursday said there are still a lot of questions unanswered by the medico-legal report prepared by the police over the death of flight attendant Christine Dacera.

Asked in an interview on Balitanghali if there was anything lacking in the medico-legal report,  Dr. Raquel Fortun said: "Marami... because that's exactly standard forensic autopsy report."

Asked what other details she was looking for in the medico-legal report, Fortun cited an example: “There is a contusion, lesion sa back of one hand."

"Contusion implies bruise, bugbog so sugat ‘yan. However, doon sa alleged contusion na ’to, mayroon daw needle puncture mark so ano ibig sabihin nito? Are you telling me that the hemorrhage you saw here is an attempt to inject something or insert an IV line? So it’s not clear to me. There are many things I’m not sure,” she added.

Dacera, a 23-year-old flight attendant, was found dead in the bathtub of a hotel room in Makati on New Year’s Day. She had checked in to celebrate New Year’s Eve with her friends.

insisted that Dacera was raped prior to her death. There was also the speculation that she was drugged.

Dacera’s family had also believed she did not die of aortic aneurysm, contrary to the earlier medical report released and has since gone viral on social media.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said the National Bureau of Investigation will conduct a second autopsy on Dacera’s body to determine the real cause of her death.

However, Fortun said conducting a second autopsy to swab Dacera of substantial evidence of rape was already “too late.”

“If your purpose in doing a second examination is to swab, surfaces for sexual assault examination, DNA, halimbawa, that’s too late,” she said.

“You cannot do it anymore so I’m not sure what is the purpose of this examination. I’m very curious totoo bang mayroong aneurysm? Mache-check mo ba ang ibang organs for natural disease or is this a way for them to go back, 'Uy teka nakalimutan namin kumuha ng ng tissue samples?'” she added. -Ma. Angelica Garcia/MDM, GMANews
