NBI ready with toxicology report on Christine Dacera -Guevarra

By NICOLE-ANNE C. LAGRIMAS, GMA News

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is ready with its toxicology report on the Christine Dacera case, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Wednesday.

Guevarra said he will leave it to the NBI to disclose its findings.

"I understand that they have requested a certain specimen from the PNP (Philippine National Police) and copies of Ms. Dacera's medical records to complete the whole picture," he said in a message to reporters.

Ordered by Guevarra, the NBI investigation on Dacera's death is separate from the preliminary investigation being conducted by a Makati prosecutor.

The latter is looking specifically into the criminal complaint against Dacera's companions before she died. The NBI probe, meanwhile, involves a re-examination of Dacera's remains

after an initial police investigation that Guevarra said was "not thorough enough."

The Philippine National Police has yet to submit a toxicology report in the Makati prosecutor's preliminary investigation.

But it has submitted a medico legal report that states Dacera died of natural causes -- the rupturing of an aneurysm in her aorta that it says was triggered by a spike in blood pressure.

"No alcohol or recreational drugs taken the night prior to her death will cause that kind of dilatation or defect on her aorta," the report states. "If she did not die that fateful night, she will still die in any scenario that presents an activity that will increase her blood pressure strong enough to tear that aneurysm."

Dacera, a 23-year-old flight attendant, died on January 1 after a celebration with friends.

Her family believes she was drugged and sexually abused but her New Year's Eve companions said they did not harm her. -MDM, GMA News
