23 LGUs in NCR Plus seek extension for cash aid distribution deadline —DILG

By JOVILAND RITA, GMA News

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Friday said at least 23 local governments in the National Capital Region (NCR) Plus have requested to extend the deadline for the distribution of cash assistance.

DILG spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya told GMA News Online that three of these local government units (LGUs) are from Metro Manila, two from Rizal, two from Laguna, two from Cavite, and 14 from Bulacan.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, Malaya identified Muntinlupa City, Valenzuela City, and Quezon City as among the LGUs that requested an extension.

Based on the guidelines issued by the DILG, LGUs were directed to determine through an executive order the ways of releasing the cash aid to residents within 15 calendars days upon receipt of the funds.

Due to the rising COVID-19 cases, the government earlier placed NCR, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal—collectively called NCR Plus —under enhanced community quarantine. The restrictions have since been downgraded to a modified ECQ.

Under the strictest community quarantine classification, the mobility of people is restricted as well as the operation of some businesses.

The government allocated P22.9 billion for a cash assistance program for the affected residents. They will receive an assistance of P1,000 per individual with a maximum of P4,000 per family.

As of Monday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said only 8% of the allocated P22.9 billion have been disbursed to the beneficiaries. -MDM, GMA News
