'CORRECT NORMAL'

Sulu gov looks on positive side of global pandemic

By LLANESCA T. PANTI, GMA News

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) might be snatching away lives and livelihood, but Sulu Governor Abdusakur Tan would rather not dwell on the bad and instead look at the positive side of the global pandemic.

"Itong pandemic... tingin ko maganda... natuto mag-alcohol, maghugas, dati ayaw mag-alcohol kasi natutuyo raw ang kamay nila," Tan said during the PDP-Laban meeting.

(I think the pandemic is a good thing. People learned proper washing and to sanitize with alcohol unlike before when they said doing so dried out their hands.)

"Natuto sila ng distancing, magpila, maghanapbuhay online... disiplina. Sabi new normal. But this is the correct normal," Tan added.

(People learned physical distancing, to fall in line, and use the Internet to earn a living. They developed discipline. They say this is the new normal but this is the correct normal.)

In the same meeting, Tan said he would throw his all-out support behind fellow PDP-Laban member President Rodrigo Duterte in case he finally decides to run for vice president in the 2022 elections.

"'Pag hindi kayo, hindi na kami boboto sa [pagka-]presidente at bise presidente," Tan, a PDP-Laban member (If you are not going to run, we won't vote anyone for president or vice president)," said Tan.

Tan then asked Duterte to fund a Sulu airport repair since the runway of their airport is too narrow.

"Mr. President, ang hinihingi namin, iyong runway kasi 1,830 meters at pataas pa. Maliit talaga," Tan said. -MDM, GMA News
