Malacañang said Thursday that President Rodrigo Duterte is not keen on fielding a presidential candidate that will go against Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in the 2022 polls.

“That is highly unlikely,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque responded when asked if Duterte will back a presidential candidate who will go against his daughter, Mayor Sara, come 2022.

Roque, however, reiterated that the younger Duterte is still undecided in pursuing a presidential bid in next year's elections.

Several political parties, such as People's Reform Party, National Unity Party, Lakas-CMD, and some PDP-Laban members, have been urging Sara to seek the country's highest elected post.

if he will run for vice president in 2022 even if a number of PDP-Laban members are prodding him to do so.

“He said [during the PDP-Laban meeting] he is seriously considering it, he did not say he is definitely running,” he said.

The President earlier said that having a successor who is his friend will enable him to have a fruitful stint as vice president because, otherwise, he will be inutile.

Duterte’s term as president ends on June 30, 2022.

During the taped PDP-Laban meeting, Duterte pushed anew Senator Bong Go to run for president in the 2022 elections. The lawmaker, however, rejected the proposal.
