Zubiri to run as independent candidate for senator in Eleksyon 2022

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri on Monday confirmed that he would seek reelection in the 2022 national elections.

At a Laging Handa press briefing, Zubiri said he would run as an independent candidate.

"Tumatakbo ko bilang independent but we have an alliance with the administration, supportive naman po tayo sa mga administration programs," Zubiri said.

He said Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda, Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero, and his colleagues Senators Sherwin Gatchalian and Joel Villanueva would also run for senator.

Zubiri said they would support each other in their senatorial bid in the coming elections.

Under the 1987 Constitution, a senator’s term of office runs for six years and they are only allowed to run for two consecutive terms.—AOL, GMA News
