Eleazar orders cops to issue tickets vs. PUVs violating health protocols in NCR Plus

By JOVILAND RITA,GMA News

Philippine National Police chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Monday said he ordered concerned cops to issue tickets to public utility vehicles (PUVs) that will violate COVID-19 protocols in the National Capital Region Plus.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, Eleazar said police personnel previously did not issue tickets for these violations but he pointed out that motorists should know the heavy consequences of their actions.

“Nagbigay na tayo ng direktiba sa Highway Patrol Group pati na rin sa local police na nakabantay sa quarantine control points na tiketan ninyo,” he said.

(I already gave a directive to Highway Patrol Group as well as to local police manning the quarantine control points to issue tickets.)

NCR Plus covers Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal.

In a memorandum issued to concerned police offices, the Directorate for Operations ordered PNP personnel to issue Temporary Operators Permit (TOPs), Official Violator’s Receipt (OVR) and Traffic Citation Tickets to the violators.

“This pertains to the reports received by the Directorate (for Operations), which disclosed unabated incidents of overloading, violations of minimum public health standards, and violations of allowed passenger capacity,” it read.

Eleazar warned that the PNP will be strict in enforcing this as part of its efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19. — RSJ, GMA News
