PNP records 165 new COVID-19 cases bringing total to 34,774

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it has recorded a total of 34,774 COVID-19 cases with 165 new infections among its personnel as of Wednesday.

In an update, the PNP said at least 32,650 have already recovered from the disease, while 2,020 are still active cases.

The death toll among the organization due to the disease remained at 104, according to the PNP

He was a 53-year-old police officer, who had been undergoing dialysis for almost three years due to chronic kidney disease and was diagnosed as diabetic with hypertension, the PNP said.

On August 20, the cop was admitted to the hospital when he experienced fever. Then, he underwent an RT-PCR test which results turned positive.

On August 21, the cop died after he experienced difficulty in breathing. He was declared dead by the attending physician due to severe pneumonia, the PNP said. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
