PNP COVID-19 death toll climbs to 109
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday said its death toll due to COVID-19 reached 109 after one new fatality was reported.
PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said the latest fatality is a 37-year-old police master sergeant who passed away on September 9 due to pneumonia and acute respiratory failure secondary to COVID-19.
Meanwhile, 176 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Sunday, driving up the total number of coronavirus infections among PNP personnel to 37,067.
Of this number, 2,655 are active cases.

A total of 159 new recoveries were reported by the PNP Health Service, making the number of recoveries now at 34,303.
The Philippines on Saturday reported 26,303 new COVID-19 cases, the highest recorded since the start of the pandemic.
Of this number, 185,706 are active; 1,985,337 recovered; and 34,978 died. —KG, GMA News
