and filled out the online application form containing personal information such as full name, address, date of birth, among others.

Once online registration is done, the applicant will receive a text message and email from PSA for the appointment schedule for capturing of biometric information such as iris scans, fingerprint scans, and front-facing photograph, as well as verification of the personal details the individuals previously provided via online registration.

Those who applied for national ID will also be given a chance to open a bank account in state-run Landbank.

Bautista said the national ID program has already enabled five million Filipinos to open a Landbank account.

The government is eyeing to enlist at least 50 million Filipinos to the national ID by the end of the year which the National Economic Development Authority says is needed to efficiently identify beneficiaries for social protection programs and spark the widespread use of electronic payments to accelerate the digital economy. — Llanesca T.
