DOH: 77% of ICU beds nationwide now occupied

Around 77% of the intensive care unit beds for COVID-19 patients in the country are occupied, placing them at high risk, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed Thursday.

Based on the latest bulletin, ICU beds in the National Capital Region are also at high risk with 79% of the total 1,500 beds in use.

High risk means the occupancy rate is more than 70% but less than 85%.

Meanwhile, the country’s ward beds and those in NCR also remain at high risk.

Around 73% of the total 15,900 ward beds nationwide are in use while 72% of the 4,500 ward beds in NCR are being utilized.

Data also showed that 57% of the total 3,300 mechanical ventilators are occupied while 61% of the total 1,200 mechanical ventilators in NCR are in use.

The Philippines earlier reported 21,261 new COVID-19 cases.

This brings the total tally to 2,304,192, of which 2,090,228 have recovered and 36,018 have succumbed to the illness. — RSJ, GMA News
