Cayetano to run for senator in Eleksyon 2022

Taguig Representative Alan Peter Cayetano on Thursday announced that he would run for senator in the May 2022 national elections.

Cayetano disclosed his political plan during a press conference in Taguig City. 

After announcing his senatorial bid, Cayetano filed his certificate of candidacy before the Commission on Elections in Pasay City. He was with his wife Taguig 2nd District Representative Maria Laarni Cayetano.

Cayetano earlier said he was considering seeking the presidency, citing the proliferation of online casinos and cockfights.

But Cayetano later realized that he could only cause division

if he ran for president.

Cayetano did not say for now who he would support in the presidential race.

"I'll run as an independent and then I will reach out to them and show them the five-year [economic] plan, ask them to improve it, 'yung pumansin I will consider them, 'yung hindi pumansin I will just wave na lang sa kanila," the lawmaker said.

(I will consider those who will take a look at the plan. I will just wave at those who don't.)

"These next three months, as I've said I'll be offering 'yung five-year plan and 'yung 10K [ayuda bill] and 'yung mga value-based or faith-based na mga stand, for example tatanungin ko sila ano stand nila sa sugal, ano stand nila sa West Philippine Sea," he added.

(These next three months, as I've said I'll be offering the five-year plan and the 10K [ayuda bill]. As for value-based or faith-based stand, for example, I will ask them about their stand on gambling and on the West Philippine Sea issue.)

The former Speaker was a member of the Senate from 2007 to 2017. His sister, Pia Cayetano, is an incumbent senator. — VBL, GMA News
