PNP: NCR areas under granular lockdown down to 117

From 121, the number of areas in the National Capital Region under granular lockdown has gone down to 117 as of Wednesday, data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) showed Thursday.

In an update, the PNP said the areas under granular lockdown were reported in 78 barangays in Metro Manila, covering 67 houses, 25 subdivisions/villages, 15 residential buildings, five residential building floors, and five streets.

The local government units (LGUs) decide on imposing and lifting granular lockdowns, the PNP Public Information Office said.

To ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards, the PNP has deployed 363 personnel and 410 force multipliers in the concerned areas.

Metro Manila Council (MMC) head and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez earlier said the presence of one COVID-19 case is enough to impose a lockdown on a house or a condominium floor.

To impose a lockdown on an entire street, he said there should be at least two COVID-19 cases.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level quarantine for areas classified as "critical zones" by the local government unit (LGU).

According to officials, granular lockdowns could be implemented on a house, compound, street or building with high cases of infections. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
