Philippines receives over 200,000 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine

The Philippines welcomed 207,090 doses of government-purchased COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech.

The shipment of the COVID-19 jabs arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 before 9 p.m. Saturday.

National Task Force Against COVID-19 special adviser Dr. Ted Herbosa said the latest batch of vaccine doses would be used to vaccinate children ages 12 to 17.

“Pfizer and Moderna are the two vaccine brands that are approved for 12 years old and up. We will be using it for our adolescent children's vaccination,” Herbosa said.

The pilot run of vaccination of 12 to 17 year-old children with comorbidities kicked off on Friday.

Herbosa also said the vaccine doses would be distributed in Cebu and Davao City.

On Saturday afternoon, the country received 720,000 doses of the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine.

"I am very happy with the arrivals. Ninety-two million doses have been delivered to the Philippines since we started [in late February]," Herbosa said. — VBL, GMA News
