By JOVILAND RITA,GMA News

The number of areas in the National Capital Region under granular lockdown has gone up from 82 to 83 as of Sunday, data from the Philippine National Police showed on Monday.

In an update, the PNP said these areas under granular lockdown are reported in 53 barangays.

Granular lockdowns were imposed on 38 houses, 20 residential buildings, 13 subdivisions or villages, six streets, and six residential building floors.

The PNP Public Information Office said local government units (LGUs) will decide on imposing and lifting granular lockdowns.

To ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards, the PNP has deployed 238 personnel and 220 force multipliers to the concerned areas.

Metro Manila Council (MMC) head and Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez earlier said the presence of one COVID-19 case is enough to impose a lockdown on a house or a condominium floor.

To impose a lockdown on an entire street, he said there should be at least two COVID-19 cases.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level quarantine for areas classified as "critical zones" by the local government unit (LGU).
