By FERDINANDH CABRERA

Maguindanao's Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit commander believed that he was the target of a roadside bombing that hit his convoy Thursday night in Shariff Aguak town.

PDEU chief Police Major Erwin Tabora, who was also Shariff Aguak town's chief of police, said that he luckily transferred from to the convoy's first vehicle when they left the camp, a break from his usual routine of riding in the middle of a three-car convoy.

Two victims, Police Master Seargent Antonio Balasa and civilian driver Alyas Bobby, were killed during the explosion.

Four other police officers were also wounded in the attack - Sgt. Larry Amoran, Staff Sgt. Guerrero Domingo, Corporal Guia Mangrag, and Corporal Clyde Peria.

Peria was in critical condition.

Maguindanao provincial police commander Police Colonel Arnold Santiago said the explosion happened in a badly lit road around 300 meters from the provincial police headquarters.

Santiago blamed the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) for bombing given that policemen killed a teenage sniper and trained bomber who was a nephew of the BIFF's Kumander Bungos.

The town of Shariff Aguak offered a P100,000 bounty to anyone who could help pinpoint the group of suspects behind the attack on the police officers. — DVM, GMA News
