BI, Batangas police arrest American wanted for assault

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Wednesday arrested an American wanted in California on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and simple assault.

Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete said operatives of the BI's Fugitive Search Unit, coordinating with Batangas police, arrested one Peter Alex Drier, an undocumented foreigner, in operations between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Perete said the San Diego Police Department in California had issued a warrant against Drier.

Drier will temporarily remain in the custody of Batangas police while awaiting the result of his swab test for COVID-19, the official said.

If there are no criminal complaints against him in the Philippines, the American may be subject to deportation, Perete said. — Nicole-Anne C. Lagrimas/BM, GMA News
