Squabble breaks out between Cavite family, nurse giving swab tests

A family in Silang, Cavite ended up arguing with the nurse who was supposed to administer their swab tests, claiming that she had been rude when she answered their questions.

According to Vonne Aquino’s Saturday report on “24 Oras Weekend,” Elaine Bayacal visited the family to test three of its members after two had tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“The moment na tinanong ng anak ko anong difference ng isolation at quarantine, nag sagot ka! Bakit kailangan mo ma-offend agad? No, hindi ka nag-reply ng magalang naririnig ko kayo,” Cecilia Alonzo, the resident, could be heard saying in the video.

Later, Alonzo said that Bayacal told them she was on overtime and that she was tired.

“Kung na-capture diyan napanood niyo, rinig na rinig siguro doon dahil nando-doon pa ‘yun. Even sa amin ganon sabi niya diba, rinig na rinig niya. OT ‘yun. Pagod na siya- overtime,” Alonzo said.

"Anong sagot ko di ba? Shouted? Kasi heated na talaga, eh, nurse Elaine 24 hours ang monitoring. Baka kaya namamatay ang pasyente ganyan kayo,” she added.

Bayacal, however, said that she answered the family’s questions respectfully.

“Nag-magandang gabi po ako sa kanila kasi ang aking iswa-swab po ay ‘yung tatlong anak nila. Nagpakilala po ako at in-explain ko po sa kanila kung ano po ‘yung pakay ko doon,” she said.

The nurse admitted that she was upset by how she was treated.

“Masakit po. Masakit na kaya nga po kami nandoon para po matulungan po sila , mai-aayos po sila,” Bayacal said.

Aside from her, the family had also allegedly threatened the escorts from the barangay.

“Mayabang ka? Sige, lumapit ka sa akin kung kaya mo ako lapitan. Ako ang positive,” Alonzo said in the video.

Meanwhile, the nurse was shown holding up her hands and stopping the barangay security officers from interfering as they could be exposed to the patients.

“Sinugod ako tapos inagaw ang cell phone ko, binato sa kalsada tapos hinatak ‘yung mask ko; binuhasan ako ng tubig,” Jerome Alfaro, a barangay officer, said.

Nevertheless, despite the arguments, swab tests from the three members of the family were successfully taken. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
