Rescue ops ongoing as 5,000 affected by Auring floods —NDRRMC

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Sunday said that rescue operations were being prioritized in flooded areas due to Tropical Storm Auring.

In a situation report on Sunday, the NDRRMC said that 5,475 people or 1,410 families in 40 barangays in the Davao and Caraga Regions were affected.

“Ongoing po ang response operations to the communities affected by flooding sa Surigao Del Sur and several areas sa Surigao Del Norte,” NDRRMC media liaison Easha Mariano told reporters in a message.

“Top priority po ang rescue operations to flooded areas,” she added.

Of the number of affected people, at least 5,054 people or 1,397 families were taking temporary shelters in 37 evacuation centers, while 261 people or 71 families were staying in other places.

The NDRRMC said 10,911 people or 3,162 families left their homes for preemptive evacuations.

At least 44 houses were partially damaged in Surigao del Sur and Surigao del Norte.

In the Davao and Eastern Visayas Regions, three roads and bridges were not passable or only one lane was passable due to the effects of Auring.

At least 36 Philippines Airlines domestic flights had been canceled from Saturday to Monday due to the weather.

Sea trips had also been canceled in the Western and Central Visayas Regions, according to NDRRMC.

At least 2,027 passengers, 761 rolling cargoes, and six vessels were stranded in the Central and Eastern Visayas regions.

Due to the threat of Auring, work in the Municipality of Romblon was suspended on Monday. — DVM, GMA News
