Over 53,000 people in Caraga, Regions 10, 11 affected by Auring —NDRRMC

A total of 53,236 persons or 13,816 families in Caraga, Davao, and Northern Mindanao regions were affected by Tropical Depression Auring, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Monday.

In its situation report issued at 8 a.m., NDRRMC added that 16, 059 families have evacuated from their homes in Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Central Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.

At least 12,825 families or 49,236 persons are currently taking temporary shelter in 308 evacuation centers, while 450 families or 1,720 persons stayed in other places.

A total of 175 houses were partially damaged, while four were totally damaged due to the impact of Auring, according to NDRRMC.

Also, five roads and a bridge were affected in Regions VIII, XI, and CARAGA. Two of the affected roads are already passable in Regions VIII and XI.

Due to the threat of the weather, NDRRMC said 40 domestic flights of Philippine Airlines were cancelled from Friday to Monday.

Sea trips were also canceled in Region VI and VII. At least  2,931 passengers, 857 rolling cargoes, and six vessels were stranded in ports in Regions VII and VIII, the NDRRMC added.

Classes and work in government are suspended in Negros Oriental on Saturday and Sunday. Tacloban City also announced suspension of class and work in government on Monday.

Earlier, the municipality of Calatrava, Romblon also suspended work on Monday, NDRRMC said.—AOL, GMA News
