Seven areas were found to be positive for a paralytic shellfish poison that was beyond the regulatory limit, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) reported on Friday.

In its latest shellfish bulletin, BFAR said that all types of shellfish and acetes, also known as alamang, from the following areas were not safe for human consumption:

“Fish, squids, shrimps, and crabs are safe for human consumption provided that they are fresh and washed thoroughly, and internal organs such as gills and intestines are removed before cooking,” the BFAR added.

The bulletin also contains the list of areas free from toxic red tide, including Cancabato Bay in Tacloban City, Leyte. — DVM, GMA News
