P5.2M worth of marijuana farms destroyed in Kalinga

A total of P5.2 million worth of marijuana plants were burned in two plantation sites during a joint operation with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Kalinga on Thursday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday.

In a statement, PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said the joint operation discovered and destroyed 2,600-square meter marijuana farms in Butbut Proper, Tinglayan.

More or less 6,000 marijuana plants worth P1.2 million in around 600 square meters of land were uprooted and destroyed at the first site.

At the second farm, 20,000 marijuana plants worth P4 million in a more or less 2,000 square meters land area were also uprooted and destroyed.

However, the PNP said no cultivator was apprehended during the operation.

Eleazar vowed that authorities will continue looking for marijuana farms.

“Ang ating mga operatiba ay hindi titigil sa pagsasagawa ng paghahanap ng mga taniman ng iligal na droga gaya ng marijuana kung saan maraming buhay, pamilya, kinabukasan at pangarap ang sinira,” he said.
